The „Naturpark Schwäbisch-Fränkischer Wald“ is in the north-east of Baden-Württemberg close to the provincial capital Stuttgart. With a surface of approximately 900 km² it comprises the area between the cities Backnang, Heilbronn, Öhringen, Schwäbisch Hall, Gaildorf, Lorch and Schorndorf. About 110.000 people live here. The altitude varies between 200 metres above sea level in the Sulm-valley and 586 metres near Gschwend and Großerlach. There is a mild climate in the wine-growing area with an average of temperature about 9 °C a year and a precipitation about 80mm a year to a cool and moist climate (7,5 degree, 1100mm) upon the plateaus.
